Jobs & Economic Development

Job growth and economic development continue to be vital to our future.  We have made great strides in creating new opportunities for our families, through a reformed tax policy and income tax rate reductions.  We must continue to focus on fiscal discipline in Columbus, while developing incentive plans and competitive strategies to bring new jobs and industry to our region.

Health Care

As we live in a challenging climate of rising health-care costs, I am proud to have sponsored the Health Care Consumers Right to Know Act.  This legislation, just passed earlier this year, will allow us to obtain cost and quality information from hospitals throughout Ohio.  This initiative, plus the Medicaid reforms, Health Savings Accounts, and initiatives to give consumers more options, will result in cost-savings and improved care for all Ohioans.

Education

Education is a top priority and is vital to our children’s future, as well as the future of the state of Ohio. I am pleased to have created a Suburban School Task Force to prioritize the unique needs of our communities.  We must continue to build on our improved performance in the classroom by creating greater accountability and implementing reforms so that state funding reaches the classroom and our students rather than the bureaucrats.

Crime & Public Safety

Crime and its effects on individuals and businesses are issues which sometimes strike close to home.  I am proud to have authored one of the most comprehensive crime-reform bills in Ohio, known as Amy's Law.  Amy Rezos's horrific experience demonstrated the need to reform Ohio's domestic violence laws to better protect our citizens.  We must continue to give the tools necessary for law enforcement officials to provide for the public's safety.
